It is with great sadness that the family of Natividad Colon announce her passing on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the age of 92. She passed away peacefully at Ida House in Tampa, Florida in the presence of her loved ones.
She was born December 25, 1928, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Nicomedes and Cristina Olmeda. She was a strong, independent, hard-working woman. She owned a fleet of school busses in which she worked side by side with her three sons.
She was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, and a devoted volunteer for the American Legion. She dedicated her life to volunteering in many hospitals where she comforted the sick and frail.
Natividad was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Guillermo Olmeda and one son, Guillermo Olmeda Jr. She was survived by her two sons, Francis Olmeda and Jose Reynaldo Olmeda; nine grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
To her friends she was known as Natý and they all loved her dearly. To her grandchildren she was known as Mamá. There are so many fond memories of Mamá working in her garden, making avena or pollo asado con papas fritas, and even willing to climb a tree to get them their favorite fruit. Her memory will live on forever and she will be deeply missed and remembered by all her children, family, and friends.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of the Ida House for the care and compassion given to Natividad in her final years.
The viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Blount and Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories followed by the graveside service at 11:00am at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 E. Lake Avenue Tampa, Fl.
