

Orville Charles Mizer was the first born of Sally Hinderman Mizer and William Mizer on August 29, 1938. They both preceded him in death. He joined the United States Navy immediately after his high school graduation in 1956. He was a Senior Chief Petty Officer and served as a Medical Field Technician. He took advantage of educational opportunities afforded to him and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1982, the same year he retired from military service. As a civilian he worked as a medical records supervisor and technology specialist for several insurance companies. He retired from that job in 2001. He was reared as a Roman Catholic, but was received into the Episcopal Church in 1994. He volunteered his time at St. James House of Prayer Episcopal Church as Treasurer, Secretary, Newsletter Publisher and Junior Warden. He was a founding member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and served as President, Vice President and Secretary. He leaves to mourn, his faithful wife, Leila Mizer; one brother, Farrell Mizer of Eugene, Oregon; a son, Thomas Mizer; two daughters, Kathryn Mizer and Elizabeth Mizer Cornog (Pete); two grandsons, Matthew and Caleb Cornog; one brother-in-law, Willie Johnson (Annie); sister-in-laws, Louise Cooper (Johnny), Ruby Lockhart (Willie) and Willy Mae Brown; along with a host of nieces and nephews, especially Eddie Brown (Angela) and Felecia Davis (Bryan). The family will receive friends on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood Chapel, 3207 W. Bearss Avenue, Tampa, FL, 33618. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. James House Of Prayer Episcopal Church, 2708 N. Central Avenue, Tampa, FL, 33602.
