Oscar J Olivera Garcia M.D., 68, of Tampa, FL passed away on July 12, 2016. Oscar was born in Havana, Cuba in 1948. He pursued his passion in medicine, becoming a surgeon in his early 20’s. He practiced in several countries, including; Nicaragua, Cape Verde, Botswana, and South Africa, with widespread recognition as a scholar and professor. After over 30 years of a successful career, he came to the U.S.. Oscar is survived by his oldest sons; Raul (Kenia) Olivera, a practicing neurosurgeon at USF and Florida Hospital Tampa, Oscar (Annia) Olivera Jr, an anesthesiologist at James A. Haley VA in Tampa, and their mother, Miriam L. Pascual. His youngest sons; Sergio A. Olivera, also studying medicine in Cuba, Pablo E. Olivera, who is in high school in Cuba, and their mother, Grisel Gonzalez. Oscar is also survived by his wife of 2 years, Gladys Soto. Oscar was an avid reader and historian, with a vast culture. He enjoyed baseball and boxing very much. Oscar had a fantastic sense of humor, with special talent for calling people funny names.
