

Ruben graduated from Our lady of Perpetual Help Academy, with his wife Rose Mary. They went to school together from grade school through high school. She was the love of his life. And, he ensured she was loved and cared for during her long battle with Alzheimer's.
A very hard working man all his life. He started his first job delivering papers for the Tampa Tribune (in Ybor City) at 11 years old. And he continued working, long after retirement.
After high school he attended The University of Tampa. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education. He taught in the Hillsborough County Public school System for over 30 years.And touched the lives of many students.
Ruben's number one priority was his family. He was a devoted, husband, father, and Nano.
He is survived by his four daughters:
Tina, Eileen,Celia, and Michelle, his grandson Nicholas and his wife Ruby, and his namesake his great grandson Little Ruben Barreto.
Ruben was born and raised in Ybor City. There was nothing he loved more than telling stories about Ybor City and its history.
He loved meeting friends for coffee at Arco Iris and Los Gringos. He just loved talking to people.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2pm at Blount and Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E Lake Avenue Tampa Florida. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm till service time.
Nano, we will love you forever. You will be greatly missed. You will live on in all of us. And we will tell lots of stories about you to little Ruben.
