
He was born on December 27, 1943, in Palermo, Sicily, Italy, and immigrated to Tampa in the mid-1960s. A skilled pastry baker, Salvatore worked at Alessi Bakery before joining the team at the Tampa Marriott Restaurant at the Tampa International Airport Hotel, where he remained until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe and Vicenza Restivo Sciortino; his son, Salvatore “Sammy” Sciortino; his brothers, Milino and Thomasino Sciortino; and his sisters, Roselia and Maria Sciortino.
Salvatore is survived by his brother, Mario Sciortino; sister-in-law, Josefina Olmo Sciortino; his sister, Rosetta Sciortino; his nephew, Mario Joseph Sciortino; his niece, Kathy Carbone Sciortino; great-nephews, Christopher Sciortino and Michael Sciortino; great-niece, Meghan Sciortino; and great-great-nephew, Madden Sciortino, son of Michael and Meghan Sciortino.
Salvatore’s life was a testament to dedication, love of family, and the quiet strength of tradition. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
On Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 11:00AM a graveside service will take place at L'Unione Italiana Cemetery 2520 E 24th Ave, Tampa Fl 33605.
