And suddenly, everything floods in. All the little things that used to irritate us—the calls, the check-ins, the way they were always “in our business.” Their laughs. The way they told stories. The way they’d snap when someone made them mad. All those tiny things become the very moments you’d give anything to see, hear, feel, or just sit beside them and talk about nothing.

Your mom and dad are living their best lives now together, just like they always were. Young, wild, and free. I imagine those woods filled with golden arrowheads, and I can see them smiling as they gently pry each beautiful treasure from the ground.

We cry for them here on Earth, but they know only joy and beauty where they are now.

Weep for a little while but in time, you’ll feel their joy too.

They’ll check on you from time to time. I know mine does. Watch. Listen. Pay attention closely you’ll see.

They are always with us.

You know, the kids we grow up with in our neighborhoods hold such a special place in our hearts.

The memories… the trouble we got into, the dumb ideas we had, and all the things we swore we were going to do “someday.” Back then, we spent so much time at each other’s houses. At least, in those days we did.

All of us kids were always at Lorie, Kelly, and Tracy’s house. Sandy and Jerry were just *good people*. They worked hard, raised their girls, and had the coolest hobby...digging for arrowheads. They loved us neighborhood kids like their own, and when I look back, my memories of Sandy and Jerry are some of the best. Jerry was hilarious, and I can still picture him sitting in that chair, guitar in hand.

One memory that has stayed with me all these years is when my dog Bear died. I was heartbroken. My mom was too, and my dad was out of town driving truck. My mom just couldn’t handle burying our good old dog.

Sandy heard what happened, came down to our house, and buried Bear for us under the big oak tree he loved laying under. That was the kind of woman she was quietly loving, compassionate, and always there when it mattered most.

To Tracy, Lorie, and Kelly losing our parents is one of the hardest things we ever face. We’re often naïve about the time we have with them. We assume they’ll always be there… until one day, they’re not.
