Steven Robert McLean was born on June 14, 1991, in Long Island, New York, to loving parents Petal Heron and Junior McLean. In 1992, the family relocated to Florida, where Steven was raised in the warmth of his devoted family — including his beloved brother Deandre, sister Kimberly and a close-knit community of friends.
A quiet but accomplished student, Steven attended Cannella Elementary, Ben Hill Middle, and Gaither High School. He earned his Associate in Arts degree from Hillsborough Community College in 2013, and graduated from the University of South Florida in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics.
Steven was an entrepreneur and lifelong learner with a natural curiosity and a drive to master new skills. He was the family’s financial advisor, a tech whiz who could fix any device, and a gadget enthusiast. He was also an avid gamer, known for his love of challenges — qualities that made him a leader in his vibrant online gaming community.
Steven enjoyed exploring new foods and watching Beat Bobby Flay, a show that reflected his love of competition. He shared many cherished moments watching Netflix series with his mom. A music lover, Steven especially admired artists like Kanye West and Lady Gaga, drawn to those who dared to be different. He embraced life with quiet strength and authenticity — as Lady Gaga once sang, “I'm on the right track, baby, I was born this way.”
Though he faced medical challenges, Steven never complained. His resilience and courage defied expectations and inspired all who knew him. He was a source of strength and purpose to his family, especially through the exceptional care of his mother and the unwavering love that surrounded him.
Steven will be remembered most for his kind heart, gentle nature, warm smile, and gracious spirit. He chose compassion over bitterness and lived as a quiet warrior. His love for his family was deep and unwavering, especially his bond with his siblings.
Steven passed away just weeks before his 34th birthday. He is deeply missed by his parents Petal and Junior, brother Deandre, sister Kimberly, grandfather, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
While we mourn Steven’s passing, we are grateful for the joy he brought into our lives. His legacy of kindness, courage, and strength lives on in all who knew him. He remains forever in our hearts — a beacon of light and love.
