For 57 years, he and Susan shared a marriage full of love, kindness, adventure and an extraordinary partnership. Through every joy and challenge, they were at each other’s side, giving everything to one another. They dedicated their lives to their family. There wasn’t a day in his 51 years as a father that Bernie didn’t put his children above everything in his life. He was more than any child could hope to have for his sons Elliott and Darren. He was selfless. His joy came solely from seeing his children happy. Later in life he was given the gift of two wonderful granddaughters, Mariah and Mila. They were the light in the latter part of his life. The daughters he never had.
Bernie’s kindness and empathy touched everyone that knew him. His relationship with his childhood friends from his early days in London was precious to him. His childhood was hard, but his friends and meeting the love of his life, Susan, made his days in London so special to him his entire life. He was so proud of where he grew up and “his mates” he grew up with. From London to Canada and then to Florida, he made so many friends he loved dearly who loved him just as deeply. If Bernie loved you, you knew it. He never held back from showing his love and affection for those special people in his life.
His kindness and deep empathy will be carried on by everyone he impacted during his 78 years. They were the core traits that made him so special to all of us. Bernie’s wife, sons, granddaughters, sister Sylvia, brother Sammy, daughters-in-law Lara and Meghan and relatives will feel his absence every day for the rest of their lives but feel gratitude for every day spent with him. He passed knowing how loved he was and that the family he built would be there for one another as he always wanted.
We love you, Bernie, with all our hearts.
