It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Marie Blackwell (Ninny) on July 7, 2025, at the age of 80. Doris passed peacefully in Round Rock, Texas. She was born on May 2, 1945, in Taylor, Texas, to Walter and Bertha Bartz (Zingleman).
Doris leaves behind a family who loved her dearly, including her daughters, Christine Moore and Teresa (Galen) Marumoto; her grandchildren, Kara (Tyler) Bradshaw, Amber Moore, Grant (Toni) Marumoto, Garrett Marumoto, Noah Marumoto, Gabriel Marumoto, and Daniel Marumoto; her sister, Betty Jean Kindle; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Walter Bartz; her sister, Shirley Robb; and her beloved husband of 62 years, Jimmie Blackwell.
Doris was raised in Taylor, Texas, where she graduated from high school in 1963. It was in Taylor that she met Jimmie and embarked on a life together filled with travel and service as part of the United States Air Force. They welcomed their first daughter, Christine, in Germany in 1968, and their second, Teresa, in Virginia in 1971. Over the years, they made a home in many places across the United States and Europe before eventually settling back in Texas.
Doris’s proudest and most devoted role was that of a mother. She often worked in the schools her daughters attended, ensuring she was always nearby to support them. Later, she worked for the State of Texas, where she eventually retired. Doris and Jimmie then moved to Cedar Park to be closer to their children and grandchildren, where they built lasting friendships in the neighborhood they loved.
Throughout her life, Doris remained close to her family, and was grateful to live near her children and grandchildren. She played an active role in their lives, helping to care for them and always offering her love and support. Doris was kind and loving, with a touch of sass and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to dance, listen to Elvis, and spend time with her friends. She had a soft spot for Boston Terriers, owning several over the years—including her most recent companion, Mr. Coco.
Even as she faced the challenges of dementia, Doris never lost her infectious smile or her spunky spirit. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend—and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 19th at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas at 2 PM.
