Doris was born on September 29, 1935, in Paige, Texas, to Willie O. Sander and Clara Helen (Saegert) Sander. She grew up in the Taylor area and graduated from Taylor High School, forming lifelong friendships and deep roots in the community she would call home for the rest of her life.
On December 18, 1954, Doris married Melvin Ray “Mac” Randig, beginning a loving partnership that spanned more than five decades. She was preceded in death by Mac, her parents, and her sister, JoNell Sander Haltom.
Doris had a one job career. She began her lifelong career at City National Bank of Taylor on July 1, 1954, working there from the age of 18 until her retirement, 45 years later, on December 31, 1999. She was known for her dedication and reliability and was fondly remembered by coworkers for rarely missing a day of work. Many relied on her knowledge, common sense, and ability to always have the answer. She was known for her observant nature and for her ability to keep those around on their toes!
She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylor, where she attended faithfully and volunteered wherever there was a need. She and Mac for many years were regularly active in the “Young Married Couples Club,” later renamed to “JOY Club,” as the group matured. She was a Sunday School teacher, served in numerous roles within the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) and sang in the church choir. She also volunteered and participated in food pantry, thrift store, and pregnancy center charities. Following her retirement, Doris continued to stay active by working part-time at Trinity Lutheran Church’s Child Development Center, where she greatly enjoyed being around and contributing to the Christian nurturing of children.
In her earlier years, outside of work and church, Doris enjoyed bowling in local leagues, forming lasting friendships and earning numerous trophies.
Doris was a deeply devoted mother who faithfully supported her son, Malcolm, throughout his life and in his activities. Alongside her sister, JoNell, she attended his band competitions and performances throughout his high school and college years, taking great pride in being present for the moments that mattered most to him. Through those years of cheering him on, she also became a dedicated Hook’em Horns, Texas Longhorn fan!
Doris will be remembered for her attention to detail, steady presence, and the deep love she had for her family. She is survived by her son, Malcolm Randig and friend Michael Diviesti, both of Taylor, as well as her siblings Eugene Sander, Harold Sander (Jerry), Mildred Kay Hardcastle (Steve), and sister in-law Katsumi “Kitty” Randig (Richard) along with extended family and loved ones who will cherish her memory.
