Harry was born in Thrall, TX on February 10, 1924 to Willie Paul and Annie Christina Juricek Matoska. He married Evelyn Faye Foster on May 24, 1951; they were married for almost 70 years.
Harry came from a very musical family. He played fiddle and drums in the family band named “Uncle Billy’s Playboys” which was made up of his father, two brothers and two sisters. Uncle Billy’s Playboys was a country western band, and they performed live on KTAE radio in Taylor, TX every Saturday morning during the late 1940’s. Harry served his country in the US Armed Services briefly during the 1940’s.
After Harry and Evelyn married, they moved to Austin, TX where they raised their three boys Kenneth, Michael and Mark. Harry worked as a truck driver for Austin White Lime before going to work for Economy Furniture for many, many years. Harry had a love for gardening growing tomatoes, okra, onions and various other vegetables. In 2003 Harry and Evelyn moved from Austin, TX to Granger, TX to be closer to family in their older years. He loved picking up his pecans from his large pecan trees. He could always tell you how much he would sell them for and was so accurate, often guessing within a few dollars. Harry was a very active man. He had a strong love for Polka music which would be frequently playing in the house.
Harry and Evelyn were members at Faith Lutheran Church in Austin, TX and later became members at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylor, TX when they moved to Granger.
Harry’s strongest love was watching his sons Mark and Michael continue their musical journey. In the early days he was on the road, sometimes even behind the wheel of the bus driving Michael and Mark with the “County Road” band or the “Lonesome Dove” band. Harry loved to go out on tour with Mark as he followed his professional career in the music industry.
Harry is survived by his wife Evelyn, his son Michael Matoska and wife Christy of Georgetown, Mark Matoska and fiancé Anne of Dripping Springs, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Kinser.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, son Kenneth Matoska, brothers Leo Matoska, Bill Matoska and sister Gloria Burk.
