

Julia Hurta Schmidt, 94, of Hutto, passed away peacefully May 26, 2017. She was born July 18, 1922, to Charles Hurta and Karolina Lesikar on the family farm in Beyersville, Texas. She and Edmund Schmidt were married in 1942 at St. John’s Lutheran, Thrall, Texas, where she was later baptized. They were married for 69 years; together they ran Schmidt’s Grocery for 40 years. She was a faithful member of Hutto Lutheran Church for 60 years.
Julia is predeceased by husband Edmund Schmidt; brothers Roy, Rhode, Charlie, Edward, and Jerry Hurta; and sisters Mildred Hurta, Elsie Sladek, Ester Collins, Ruby Sladek, Helen Hehman, and Doris Hruska.
Julia is survived by children Dennis (Rosemary) Schmidt of Taylor, Jennifer (Kenneth) Goodenow of Hutto, David (Jessica) Schmidt of Taylor, Corliss (Ted) Powell of Austin; granddaughters Julie (Jon) Snyder of Taylor, Erin (Rudy) Supak of Caldwell, Joanna Schmidt of Denton, Katherine Powell of Austin; grandsons Bryan (Courtney) and Bradley (Erin) Schmidt of Taylor, Scott (Heather) and Daniel (Amanda) Goodenow of Bryan, Brennen (Vicki) Goodenow of Round Rock, Jordan (Peggy) Schmidt of Round Rock, Dr. Thomas (Megan) Powell of Houston, Jason Powell of Austin; sisters Velma Reichenbach and Lydia Dowling of Taylor, Betty Jane Hurta of Houston; sisters-in-law Shirley Halstead of Houston, Marty Schmidt of Austin, Carol Schmidt of Leander, Nathalie Engling of Elgin; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to Aunt Nathalie for her care and companionship to Mom during her final days, San Gabriel Nursing Facility, and Hospice of Austin. Visitation: May 31, 6-8 pm, Condra Funeral Home, Taylor. Funeral services: June 1, 10:30 am, Hutto Lutheran Church, followed by graveside services at the church cemetery. Julia’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to cancer research or a charity of your choice.
