

Sophie was born October 7, 1920 to Joseph and Philomena (Krejci) Steffek. On November 23,1943, she married John P. Kubicek and they were married for 45 years. He preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her loving son, Wilbert James Kubicek, five brothers and three sisters.
Sophie was a home-maker in the true sense of the word. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and would never let you leave her home without making sure you had something to eat. She never knew a stranger and served others with a joyful and happy heart. She was well known for her delicious kolaches which she generously shared with family and friends. Sophie liked springtime and enjoyed planting and nurturing her flower and vegetable gardens. Nothing tasted better than her pickles and canned goods. She was a lover of God's creatures and loved to show her grandchildren or any visitors, the peacocks, doves, quail and numerous other animals she had on the farm. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter and pieced hundreds of beautiful hand-made quilts.
Sophie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylor and St Anne's Altar Society and the KJZT. She had a deep faith in God, and a special devotion to Blessed Mary, Mother of Jesus. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 57 years.
She is survived by her sons, John and Joyce Kubicek of Austin, Gilbert and Lois Kubicek of Elgin, her daughters, Monica and Doug Rowe of Taylor, Joyce and Larry Spinn of Holland, Loretta and David Knapek of Taylor; sisters Emilie Vrana of Taylor and Edith Werchan of Austin, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 more on the way, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor with a Holy Rosary recited at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylor. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Taylor.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Johnny Kubicek Jr., Michael Welch, Chris Kubicek, Kevin Rowe, Adam Spinn, Justin Knapek, Paul Spinn, and Keith Knapek.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylor or the charity of your choice.
