Alice Prange passed peacefully on December 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 27, 1938, in Tampa, Florida, to the late John and Winnie Prince. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 62 years, Edward C. Prange, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and cherished memories.
Alice was born and raised in Tampa, where she attended H.B. Plant High School. She later attended the University of Florida, where she studied education and met the love of her life, Edward. They were married in 1959 and built a beautiful life together, raising two children, Jennifer and John Kipling (Kip).
Deeply rooted in their community, Alice and Ed were longtime members of St. John’s Episcopal Church, the Timuquanians, and Egypt Shrine Temple. They shared a passion for the arts and were enthusiastic supporters of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and the Florida Orchestra.
Above all else, Alice was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who devoted herself fully to her family. She worked side by side with her husband in the family pharmacies—Shea and Prange Pharmacy, Castle Pharmacy, and Medical Center Pharmacy—always offering warmth, kindness, and a welcoming presence. Alice delighted in travel and the arts, from evenings at the theater in New York City to marveling at the timeless beauty of the Vatican. Her curiosity, grace, and love of beauty enriched the lives of all who knew her.
Alice is survived by her children, Jennifer Prange Smith and John Kipling Prange; her sister, Virginia T. Bever; her granddaughters, Tiffany Meritwether Smith and Olivia Prange Porter; and her great-granddaughter, Eliza Prange Porter. She will be deeply loved and fondly remembered by her family and many dear friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Alice’s personal caregivers, as well as the staff of Blue Heron Senior Living and Gulfside Hospice, for their extraordinary care, compassion, and kindness. Memorial donations may be made in Alice’s memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children at www.shrinerschildrens.org or to St. John’s Episcopal Church.
