

Alvis Dean Vest was born March 30, 1928 in Frost, TX to Roy E. Vest and Stella Barnes Vest. He graduated from Frost High School where he lettered in every sport. He joined the United States Navy June 5, 1946 and served as Seaman Second Class during World War II, receiving the Victory Medal.
He was honorably discharged October 25, 1946. A.D. married Margaret Peace December 5, 1947 in Corsicana and lived there shortly. They lived in Waco from 1948 to 1973 when they moved to Temple. He was employed with Southwestern Bell as a manager and retired after 43 years with perfect attendance. A.D. was a member of the Optimist Club for years and enjoyed dancing with Senior Citizen groups all over Bell County. He died doing what he loved the most, while dancing with his friends.
Mr. Vest was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife of 58 years on October 28, 2006.
Survivors include two daughters; Jan Libby and her husband Dennis, Paula Bittles and her husband Bill; five grandchildren; Ashley Bittles League and her husband Jamie, Dean Bittles, Dylan Bittles, Jon Cooper and his wife Christina and Sean Cooper; two great-grandchildren Faith and Nicholas Dean Cooper all of Austin; two brothers Bill Vest of Hewitt and Troy Vest of Lewisville; one sister, Ruth Wilson of Hewitt.
Visitation will be Monday 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Temple. Services will be 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Hubert Austin officiating. Friends are invited to stay for lunch with the family at the funeral home following the service. Burial will be 3:00 p.m. at Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton with Military Honors. The Rev Sam Jones will officiate.
