Jerry, the third of four siblings, was born to the late Wayne and Cleo Boyd in Comanche County in the community of Gustine, Texas. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Key Boyd; a daughter, Holly Reicks, and her husband Chris; a son, Jade Boyd, and his wife Dawn; brothers K.D. Boyd and Jaime Boyd, and his wife Barbara; six wonderful grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Leslie Iris Eliot, and by his beloved sister-in-law, Charlotte Boyd.
After the completion of his military obligation Jerry continued his formal education at Texas A & M University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1962. Upon receiving his professional engineer registration, Jerry launched his career as a professional engineer with the state of Texas in water resource management.
Retirement years provided opportunity for Jerry and Key to work with Texas Baptist Men Church Builders constructing church buildings around the state of Texas. They also served the local community as members of First Baptist Church of Belton, and as members of the Early Bird Sunday School group, where Jerry served as teacher. They were former members of the Belton Kiwanis Club, where Jerry served ten years as club treasurer.
One of their most satisfying community service activities was Project Apple Tree, a community-wide effort of providing school supplies and new clothing for low income children in the Belton school district. Each summer for more than ten years, they assisted others with assembling bags of school supplies for more than 1,300 children.
