

Services for J.S. Patton, age 97, will be at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 10am.
Visitation will be Friday, June 7, 2024 from 6pm to 8pm, Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.
Birth: J.S. Patton was born the 19th of February 1927 in Winters, Texas to Richard Clinton Patton and Emma Loucille Patton.
Life: Lived in Runnels County in an old ranch house. Moved to Midland when he was 6 years old.
Education: Attended grade school and high school in Midland. He graduated in 1944, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944. Was honorably discharged in 1946. He was 17 when he enlisted.
Work: He sold papers and had a paper route. Bought a new bicycle for $10 at Western Auto. When he was 14, he went to work in the composing room of the MRT. He worked until he joined the Marine Corps at age 17. When he was discharged, he went back to work at the MRT and finished his apprenticeship. He left the MRT in 1954, and went to work on the Temple Daily Telegram. He retired on March 1, 1990.
Children: He married Norma Jean Bramlett on January 28, 1949 at Greenwood Baptist Church in Midland. They were the parents of three sons, Billy Glynn, Jerry Lynn, and Jimmy Wayne. Norma Jean passed away on January 5, 2006. They were married 57 years. On August 14, 2008, he married Carolyne Dial McQuien.
Church: He joined Immanuel Baptist Church in 1954 where he served as a deacon. Pallbearers will be:

Survivors:
His wife Carolyne, and three sons, Billy Glynn, Jerry Lynn, and Jimmy Wayne, sister Joyce Parson, sister Betty Blackman, brother Darrell Patton, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Nada Howard of Lewisville Texas and three stepdaughters.
Music: Favorite song is Rock of Ages: Having heard this song as a youngster and all my life. Country music: Any of Bob Wills, Ernest Tubb, etc. There were and are some good singers in that time. Big band: Most any of the group from 1940 to 1946, especially “Deep Purple” Gospel: The Stamps-Baxter quartet was the leader of this group. “Give the World a Smile” was written in 1936.
He and his father-in-law worked together for over 35 years and never had a cross word. If the windmill needed new leathers, I had the tower but we had a good time laughing and working.
