It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth (“Ken”) Wayne Hilliard announce his passing. Ken was a cherished man known to all for his kind, loving, and humorous personality. Ken never met a stranger and was truly the life of the party. Ken gained his angel wings on October 15, 2024.
Ken was born on April 14, 1953, in Haskell, Texas to Elmer and Bernice Hilliard. Ken graduated from Texas Tech University and Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Agricultural Science. Ken spent 39 wonderful years working for BASF, where he met countless people who instantly became treasured, lifelong friends. Ken enjoyed nothing more than family, friends, rodeos, lake time, Crown and water, and his beloved dogs, Raider and Aggie.
Ken is survived by his wife, Dr. Barbara Procter-Hilliard of Belton, Texas; daughters, Chessa Akins (Dr. Scott Akins) of Midland, Texas and Nicole Miller of Lubbock, Texas; Barbara’s daughters, Tara (Justin) Orrels of Monroe, Louisiana and Hannah Procter of Belton, Texas, siblings, Linda (Larry) Short of Rochester, Texas, Patricia Shaw of Haskell, Texas, and Ronald (Edith) Hilliard of Haskell, Texas, as well as 7 grandchildren (Jackson, Lauren, Savannah, Sawyer, Scarlett, Ryker, and Amelia Kate).
Ken touched the lives of so many and his humor, smile, and zest for life will truly be missed. As the song goes, oh, the last goodbye’s the hardest one to say, this is where the cowboy rides away
