

Laura Kinard Childs passed away peacefully at her home on December 30, 2023. She was born August 30, 1925 in the Blue Ridge community of Falls County, Texas to Charles and Essie Kelly Kinard. A gathering celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5th at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Temple, Texas. There will be a time of visitation at 10:00 a.m. just prior to the service. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Baptist Church cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
Laura attended Blue Ridge and Reagan schools and was a graduate of Baylor University, subsequently teaching in Marlin schools for many years. On August 10, 1947, Laura married Hugh Childs in Marlin, Texas. They were married sixty years.
While working and raising four children, she was also a cub scout den mother, involved in various church organizations, a 42 club participant, a skilled seamstress, gardener, wonderful cook, voracious reader, crossword puzzle master, champion babysitter and puppy sitter, ceramist, and quilter. She was a dedicated Christian who adored her children, delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and will remain a wonderful example to them all.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh, her parents and sisters Eunice Cunningham and Rosalyn Kinard. Survivors include son Charles Childs and wife Nancy of Temple, daughter Cindy Baird and husband Thomas of Temple, daughter Carol Brown and husband Glenn of League City, and daughter Celia Aimone and husband Bill of Montgomery. Also, grandchildren Suzannah Baird Smalley and husband David, Jordan Baird, Zach Baird and wife Charlotte, Jeff Baird, Julie Baird Kniowski and husband Matthew, LauraLee Baird Henderson and husband Luke, Daniel Brown and wife Rachel, Samuel Brown, Timothy Brown, Elias Brown, Allie Aimone Friesen and husband Nick, and Will Aimone. She is also survived by seventeen great grandchildren. Also, brothers Charles S. Kinard of Laneville and David Kinard of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and sister Donna Pierson of Houston. Also surviving are brother-in-law Don Childs of Dallas and sisters-in-law Mary Childs of Marlin and Pauline Childs of Wichita Falls as well as many much-loved nieces and nephews.
