Melvin D. Newton, 86, passed away Thursday, June 2, in Temple. Visitation for Melvin is going to be held Sunday, June 5, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, at Ave. T. Church of Christ with burial to follow at Bellwood Memorial Park.
Melvin was born in Marshall, June 4, 1924 to William C. and Lennie Gertrude Newton. He married Norma J. Harrison on February 29, 1948 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He was a refinery worker and retired from Cosden Chemical in 1983. Melvin was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Newton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma; two sons, David (wife, Connie) of Tyler and Jeff (wife, Julie) of Mansfield; grandsons Jack Newton of Providence Village and Paul Newton of Mansfield; one granddaughter Amanda Newton of Mansfield, and three great-grandchildren.
