

Carman Higgenbothem, age 93, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, in Temple, Texas. A Graveside Service with Military Honors for Mr. Higgenbothem will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas 76542.
Mr. Higgenbothem was born on February 2, 1931, in Heislerville, New Jersey, to William Henry Higgenbothem, a farmer, and Vada Mae Spence, a homemaker. He was the second to the youngest of six children, three brothers and two sisters.
He married Charlotte Bernice Fox of Shiloh, New Jersey, on January 27, 1951, in Roadstown, New Jersey. They celebrated 73 years of marriage on January 27, 2024.
On July 9, 1952, Mr. Higgenbothem entered the U.S. Air Force where he served proudly for thirty years and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant, the highest rank attainable as a non-commissioned officer, on October 1, 1982, in San Antonio, Texas. During his tenure in the military, he was stationed throughout the United States, as well as in Spain, Thailand, Korea, and Japan. He held various positions in the commissary, clothing issue, mortuary affairs, etc. After retiring from the Air Force, he was employed as a military sales representative prior to beginning a career in Federal Civil Service as a civilian managing Air Force commissaries. He eventually retired from Civil Service and began driving dealer trades for various car dealerships in San Antonio and Central Texas. He did this up until approximately age 87.
Mr. Higgenbothem was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Victor and Alma Fox, his brothers, Arlington Spence, Wilbur, and Earl Higgenbothem, and his sisters, Ceola MaGill and Luetta Vizachero. He is survived by his spouse, Charlotte Higgenbothem, of Temple, Texas, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Rhonda Higgenbothem, of Huntsville, Arkansas, his daughter and son-in-law Susan and Cesar Moore, of Temple, Texas, granddaughter, 2LT Carly Moore, of Fort Liberty, North Carolina, favorite nephew, Marc Higgenbothem, of Annandale, Virginia, Cousin Helen Matthews, of Millville, New Jersey, sisters-in-law, Margaret Kates, of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Anna Higgenbothem, of Live Oak, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was loved by his family and he will really be missed.
