

Pearl Estell Gordon (Peggy) Cook passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 at her home surrounded by her three daughters. Peggy was born December 1, 1923 in Corsicana and was the youngest child of Holland Fields Gordon and Agnes Amy Byrne Gordon.
She was raised in Corsicana and graduated from Corsicana High School in 1940. She married Jesse Collin (John) Cook, Jr. on March 22, 1942 at Eleventh Avenue Methodist Church by Rev. Allen E. Peacock.
Peggy was a homemaker, devoted wife and mother to three daughters and grandmother to eight grandchildren. She also found time to serve in P.T.A., was a lifetime member of Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church, was an active member of 7th Street United Methodist Church and a charter member of Oak Park United Methodist Church. At Oak Park, she held several positions in the Sarah Circle and the Friendship Sunday School Class along with volunteering with Bible School and the Annual Rummage Sales. She served as president of the “Garden Plotters Garden Club”, participated in the “Birthday Club” with a group of church friends and recently served as an Ambassador at Sterling House Assisted Living to welcome and orientate new residents.
She is survived by her three daughters Peggy Dillard (Richard) of Belton, Alice Garcia (Ted) of Temple and Sally Vaughan, also of Temple. Her eight grandchildren are DeAnna Powers (Mark) of Lewisville, Richard Dillard of Dumas, Chad Dillard of Belton, Gabe Garcia (Elissa) of Temple, Eric Garcia of Stillwater, OK, Trenton Vaughan (Ashley) of Temple, Tyson Vaughan(Julie Tuck) of Burleson, Teysha Vaughan (Dustin Jasper) of Temple, twelve great-grandchildren: Ashley Powers (Mike Metzler) of Carrollton, Hayley Elrod (Peyton) of Lewisville, Hunter Dillard of White Oak, Julia & Gabby Garcia of Temple, Brodie Vaughan of Burleson, Ross, Ryon, and Ely Vaughan, and Charles Lankford, all of Temple and Joshua and Garrett Powers both of Lewisville, TX. She had one great-great granddaughter, Emma Lauren Powers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Jesse Collin (John) Cook, Jr., her parents, six sisters, two brothers and a daughter, Cathy Jane Cook.
Pallbearers will be Chad Dillard, Gabe Garcia, Tyson Vaughan, Trenton Vaughan, Joshua Powers and Garrett Powers. Honorary pallbearers are great-grandsons Brodie Vaughan, Ely Vaughan, Ryon Vaughan, Ross Vaughan and Charles Lankford.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Oak Park UMC Sanctuary Fund (5505 S. 31st St., Temple, TX 76502).
The Cook Family will receive guests for a time of visitation on Tuesday April 8, 2014 from 5-7pm at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Wednesday April 9 in the chapel at Crawford-Bowers at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Bellwood Memorial Park.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to all the caregivers who showered her with love and attention: the staff of Sterling House Assisted Living of Temple (Lisa, K.T. and all the angels that were so caring) the nurses & staff of Bluebonnet Hospice, Scott & White physicians Dr. Mack & Dr. Mirkes and Nurse Lesa, who were such a blessing.
