March 31, 1937 – July 7, 2025
Ruby Jean Nichols (fondly known as MawMaw), 88, of Temple, TX, passed away suddenly on July 7, 2025. She was born in San Saba County, Texas, on March 31, 1937, to Willie T. Dyer and Bertha Beatrice McGary.
Ruby married R.L. Nichols, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. Together, they raised a blended family that included two stepsons and three children: James Roy, Brenda Kay and Ronnie Lynn. Over the years, her family grew to include nine grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, with two more great-great-grandchildren on the way.
A lifelong homemaker, Ruby took pride in her quilting and crocheting, creating afghans and handmade pieces that remain with family members. She is most remembered for her opinionated nature, cooking with her grandkids and playing card games with family. She was a member of Canyon Creek Baptist Church, where she made many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.L. Nichols, who was deeply loved by his family, and by her daughter, Brenda, whose early passing remained a source of deep sadness.
In recent years, Ruby was thankful for the care provided by her family, particularly her youngest sister, Rosanna—also known as Rosie Ann—with whom she developed a close bond.
