Benita Berneice Brown

Benita Berneice (Woodard) Brown, age 90, formerly of Terre Haute, passed away on October 17, 2024 at Grand Brook Memory Care in Greenwood, Indiana. Benita was born December 11, 1933, in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Ray and Berneice (Arnett) Woodard. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Josephine Elizabeth Woodard, and brother, Robert (Helen and Rosalie) Woodard. She married the love of her life, Leslie Brown Jr. on January 19, 1958. Leslie preceded her in death on October 24, 2013.

Benita graduated with honors from Garfield High School in 1951, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Cheerleading team and Treasurer of the Student Council. She pursued a career in nursing and graduated Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She served as her Nursing Class President. Benita was a dedicated RN for over 50 years. The majority of her career was a Surgical Nurse at Union Hospital and then as a Surgical RN First Assist for a number of Surgeons in the Terre Haute Area for many years. Upon retirement from nursing in 1999, Benita was a Realtor for Larry Helman Reality and then did payroll for Heinl’s Florist for a few years. She was a long-time member of Maplewood Christian Church and St. Marks Church of Christ. Benita was an avid reader, life-long learner, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Benita is survived bv her children, Libby (Lyman) Busard, of Greenwood, Indiana; Tim (Cheryl) Brown, of Terre Haute, Indiana. Grandchildren: Kyle (Ashley) Busard of Bargersville, Indiana, Karly (Jordan) Ilbrink of Millington, Tennessee; Five great-grandchildren: Braxton Busard, Grayson Ilbrink, Brynleigh Busard, Cameron Ilbrink and Everett Busard. One niece, Donna Thomson of Pontiac, Illinois and several great nieces and nephews.
