

Charles Dale Campbell, 96, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, GA. Born on Nov. 5, 1917 in Danville, IL, he was the son of the late Charles Gernand Campbell and Nelle Dale. He attended Danville High School and received a football scholarship to Indiana State College in Terre Haute, IN. Later, he made his home in Clinton, IN, where he continued to have a residence.
Mr. Campbell was a member of United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters for 68 yrs. and a member of Local 157 in the Terre Haute district for 58. As a pipefitter and welder, he had the opportunity to travel the US, later working as foreman and supervisor for many well-known companies.
In addition to his parents and four sisters, he was predeceased by his wife of 50 yrs., Margaret Humphries Campbell, originally from Savannah, GA, who died in 1998; a daughter, Sally Campbell Pflederer, who died in 2008; and a grandson, J. Derek Ferando, who died in 2009.
Mr. Campbell is survived by special friend and companion of 15 yrs., Jane Lawhon Humphries of Savannah, GA; two daughters, Patricia Jean Dabels (James) of Irmo, SC, and Dr. Nancy Dale Campbell of Indianapolis, IN; one son, John Axon Campbell of Terre Haute, IN; four grandchildren: Bryan Dabels (Anne) of Madison, GA, Scott Dabels (Kimberly) of Summerville, SC, Lynn Busch (Kelly) of Irmo, SC, and Natalie Campbell of Claremore, OK; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and family pets, Emmylou and Sophia.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home with the service Thursday at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of personal choice.
