On the early morning of May 9, 2020, Dale Lee Howard passed away at the age of 85 in Houston, Texas.
Dale was born August 28, 1934 in Terre Haute, to Carl and Mary Howard. A 1952 graduate of Otter Creek High School, he has remained close with many of his classmates. In 1953, Dale enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an aviation technician for 38 years until his retirement from the Indiana Air National Guard as a Chief Master Sergeant. On January 4, 1958, he married the former Martha LaRoche and raised one daughter, Barbara.
Dale had a passion for auto mechanics and spending time with family. He spent many hours in his garage rebuilding a 1931 Ford Model “A.” When he wasn’t rebuilding his car, he was spending time with his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Known as the “Donut Man” to his great-grandchildren, Dale would arrive in the mornings with a large infectious smile and a bag of donuts for the family. He was known for his big heart, his service, and his love for life.
Dale is survived by his wife Martha, his brother Larry David Howard, his Daughter and Son-in-law, Barbara and David Coleman, his two grandchildren and spouses, Elizabeth and Jeffrey Caslen and Austin and Cassidy Coleman, his four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and one uncle. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Carl and Mary Howard, and two brothers, Don and Darrel Howard.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors, Pastor Larry Lilly will officiate. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
