David L. Shoemaker, 80, of Rosedale, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Meadows Manor North. He was born on May 10, 1941, in Madison County, Indiana to Morgan and Mary (Poor) Shoemaker. He married Constance J. Weir in 1962.
David is survived by his wife of 58 years, Connie Shoemaker of Rosedale; daughter, Jill Slaven and husband Kyle; grandson, Shane Slaven; and a sister, Rebecca. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David E. Shoemaker in 2008; a sister and two brothers.
David graduated from Rosedale High School and Ivy Tech Community College. He worked for the Indiana Department of Corrections for 16 years. David also worked at CF Industries for 25 years. His favorite job, however, was being a volunteer firefighter at the Lyford Volunteer Fire Department. David devoted 20 years to protecting his community and also served as the Treasurer for the department for 19 years. In his spare time, David loved to go on motorcycle trips. He and Connie traveled the United States, logging a total of 80,000 miles of life, love, and adventure.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lyford Fire Department.
