Don was a lifelong resident of Terre Haute. He graduated with the first class at Terre Haute North High School. On July 15, 1989 he married the love of his life, Julie Stork from Aurora, Indiana. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Lindsey and Kaci.
Don coached basketball at the Boys and Girls Club of Terre Haute for over 20 years and it was passion even before his own children were active in that organization. Don was honored as a coach of the year during his service at the Boys and Girls Club. Don was also active in coaching his daughters in softball, both on the field and from the sidelines. Don treated all the girls on the team with the same respect that he treated his own daughters and was a favorite “team dad” for many years.
Don spent 18 years as a locksmith at Erney’s Safe and Lock. In 1989, he started his career at Industrial Supply Company where he worked for over 27 years. He developed many friendships with coworkers and customers during that time. It has been said that Don never met a stranger and truly believed he was at his best while serving the customers.
Don and Julie were both active in the Terre Haute Jaycees and developed many lasting friendships during this time. Don enjoyed life, loved his family, and was quick to offer a smile and a funny story. Don enjoyed vacationing every year with close friends in both Gulf Shores, Alabama and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Don’s love of life extended to the monthly breakfasts and dinners with friends and family. His culinary skills were also on display every year when he made his famous homemade ravioli and spaghetti with meatballs. He also enjoyed his favorite adult beverage, Early Times and Diet Coke. Don had fond memories and stories of his stops with friends along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Don loved watching college basketball and football games with friends, all avid fans of the Purdue Boilermakers. Don was member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Downtown Terre Haute.
Don is survived by his wife Julie (nee Stork) McBride, daughter Lindsey Sanquenetti (Joey) of Terre Haute, daughter Kaci McBride of Panama City Beach, Florida, brothers Jimmy McBride (Connie), Tommy McBride, sister Edie Grayless, grandchildren, Nadia, Paisley, Zoe, and Joey Sanquenetti, father-in-law Glendal Stork (Nancy), sisters-in-law Jana (John) Schuler, Jenny (Melvin) Ballard, and Jamie (Josh) Bowling.
