

Ernie Joy was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and played semi-pro baseball with the Young Men’s Club of West Terre Haute. He continued his involvement in baseball as a coach in Little League, Babe Ruth, and American Legion ball. He also was a baseball umpire and a basketball referee for both high school and college games.
He was a US Navy veteran of WWII. His career in the Navy continued when he was assigned to help establish Naval Reserve Training Stations. After retirement from the Navy, he was employed by the Civil Service at Great Lakes Naval Station.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Freda Turner Joy, and two sisters, Charlotte Mount and Edna Anderson. Other survivors are his four children, James Turner Joy, Jane Montgomery, Jaxie Dausman, and Jody Beatty, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from noon until the time of service. Military rites will be performed by VFW Post 972. Burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley/VNA or Emmanuel United Methodist Church Building Fund.
