Estel Eugene Grindle

Estel Grindle, age 93, of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022. He was born November 28, 1928 in Terre Haute to Smith Grindle and Thelma (Hammond) Kirby. Estel was a proud WWII Veteran that served in the Army Air Force. He is survived by his loving daughters: Janice Crowley (Mike) of Terre Haute, Adina Hydrick of Carrollton, Ga., and Diana Elliott (Jim) of Carbon; special son-in-law, Willie Lindsay; grandchildren: Mark Ditto II of Terre Haute, Christina Grayless of Terre Haute, Tara Wysner (Andy) of Breman, Ga., Tricia Clark of Jasper, Cinda Harris (Mark Crum) of Madison, Wis., Amanda Gilbert (Chris) of Navarre, Fla., Sean Crowley of Terre Haute, Kimberly Chan (Andy) of Langley, British Columbia, Canada, and Pat Harmless of Terre Haute; as well as his 11 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Wilma Fordice, Minnie Stultz, and Donna Burch (Larry); along with numerous nieces and nephews. Estel retired from First Financial Bank after many years of hard work and dedication. In his retirement years, he enjoyed woodworking and crafts, which he shared with numerous friends and relatives. He was a long time member of the Eighth Avenue Baptist Church and most recently attended FBN Church. Estel enjoyed helping others. He adored all of his grandchildren and treasured the memories they created. He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 68 years, Lois (Flagg) Grindle; his daughter, Nancy Lindsay; and his siblings: Juanita Lasure, Dorothy Bemis, Imogene Price, Ed Grindle, Devella Rowley, Alva Grindle, and Sharon Lemerick. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home from 11am-1pm. Service will begin at 1pm at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with a graveside to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family wished to extend a special thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice and Dr. Antwan Mardini for the kindness and compassion given to Estel in his final days.
