

Jack L. Dunlap, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away at 10:16 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was the owner and operator of Dunlap Oil for many years throughout his lifetime career during which he was involved in crude oil production from his oil wells in Flat Rock, Ill. He was born on Sept. 27, 1932, in Ferrel, Ill., to Joseph Dunlap and Maude Sturgell Dunlap.
He was the last surviving child of Joseph and Maude having been preceded in death by his parents and five siblings which were Joseph Dunlap Jr., Charles Dunlap, Josephine Pendergast, Delbert Dunlap, and Robert Dunlap.
He is survived by eight nieces and nephews, Garrett Pendergast and his wife Stephanie, Mike Dunlap and his wife Jayne, Sally Weitzel and her husband Tom, Mark Dunlap and his wife Dormilee, Dennis Dunlap and his wife Pam, Kim Pendergast and her husband Joe Lazaroff, Cindy Rothrock and her husband Tom, and Keith Dunlap and his wife Bambi; a sister-in-law, Dorothea Dunlap; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, the American Legion Post 346, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie 291. He enjoyed traveling and especially loved going to Las Vegas.
Funeral services for Jack will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Monte Reitchenberg officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites provided by the V.F.W. Post 972. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Cannon Inn for the kindness and care that they provided to Jack. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the New Providence Presbyterian Church or to the charity of donor’s choice with envelopes available in the funeral home.
