James Franklin Butts

Jim was born on March 7, 1936 to Lester and Jane Butts in Terre Haute. He attended Garfield High School, graduating in 1954. Jim proudly served his nation in the Army and with the Terre Haute Police Department from 1960-1988, where he was a Lieutenant and worked as a detective. Jim married Emilita Anderson on February 16, 1960. The couple had two children, Jimmy and Rhonda.

Jim enjoyed fishing, music, singing and playing the piano. He was a lifelong member of Maplewood Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Emilita, and his two brothers, Lester and Virgil.

Jim is survived by his children, Jimmy Butts of Terre Haute, and Rhonda Boswell, also of Terre Haute; grandson, Eddie Boswell of Indianapolis and several nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful to Great Lakes Hospice, who provided excellent care and support. They would also like to express appreciation and thanks to Jim’s caregiver, Tina Almoghalliq.

Services will be Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. David Butts will be officiating; burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial donation to 14th and Chestnut Community Center, 403 Chestnut, Terre Haute, Indiana 47807. The 14th and Chestnut Community Center is a faith-based non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of local children.
