Jim was born on May 20, 1945 in Clinton to James T. Lewis and Naomi L. Sheets Lewis.
He was a graduate of Garfield High School class of 1964 and received his Bachelor's Degree in Criminology from Indiana State University.
Jim proudly served his country in the US Navy Reserves, the US Army and Indiana National Guard, which led him to a career in Law Enforcement. He retired from the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, and had worked at Sullivan County Sheriff Department and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Surviving are his spouse, Nancy G. Lewis; children, Aaron T. Lewis and wife, Heather and Audrea M. Lewis - Sandusky and husband Stan; two brothers, Steve Lewis, and John Lewis and wife Debbie; one sister, Nancy Hay and husband, John; seven grandchildren, Austin Lewis, Aaric Lewis, Casey Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Brayden Taylor, Cullen Sandusky, and Kelsey Miller and husband, Chris; four great grandchildren, Reece, Dylann, Mason, Railynn; nieces and nephews, Brianna Lewis, Ryan Lewis, Matthew Lewis and Travis Hay; and several great nieces and nephews .
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Christopher Lewis; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Lewis.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 2 PM at the Federal Prison Lake Property, 9025 Terrier Road, Terre Haute, 47802, with Rev. Allissa Santoro Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 2 PM.
