John "Jt" Taylor Smith II

John Taylor Smith II, 77, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his favorite girls. He was born on May 3, 1944, in Jeffersonville, IN to John Taylor Smith and Emma Louise (Taylor) Smith.

JT is survived by his wife, Donna Smith; children, John Smith III (Andi Smith) and Paige Smith (Matt Johnson); step-son, Matt Phillips; grandchildren, Madison Phillips, Abby Phillips, Taylor Beeler, Alexandrea Smith, Catherine Smith, and Adam Smith; great-grandson, Grayson Simpson; a brother, Tim Smith (Judy Smith); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Nanette Worrall.

JT proudly served in the United States Air Force. He worked in retail for 43 years as a buyer and then as a store manager for Bacon’s, Root’s and Macy’s department stores.

A man who loved his family, JT was a devoted husband, encouraging father, and doting grandfather. He was beloved by his many nieces, nephews, and a wide, extended family. He loved to fish with his Kentucky cousins and enjoyed spending time with the ones he loved sharing stories and laughter. He bestowed a special nickname on everyone. JT will forever be remembered for his smile, kindness, and his storytelling. A true family man, he will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 3 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 4, at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Lilly officiating. JT will be laid to rest with military honors in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, Hospice of the Wabash Valley, or the United Way.
