John Francis Thompson of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025. He also summered in Rye, NY and Nantucket, MA. Born to Francis (Bud) Thompson and Bernadine (Critchlow) Thompson on July 25, 1938, in Terre Haute, IN, this is where he grew up and later raised his family.
John is survived by his wife, Karen T Butler, the love of his life; and his children: Marisa Thomas of Garden Grove, CA; Andrew (Xiaoyan) Thompson of Carmel, IN; Kevin (Cilene) Thompson of Ellettsville, IN; J.F. (Susan) Burton of Sherman, TX; Julie Butler of Sharon, CT; John Butler of Asheville, NC; and six grandchildren.
John graduated from Wiley HS in Terre Haute, IN, having starred as the quarterback of their football team, and is a graduate of Indiana State University. He had a very successful career in the high-end estate jewelry business both in Indiana and Florida.
John Thompson was a kind and generous, yet humble man. He had a great smile and a winning way that touched many in simple but sincere ways. He had a great faith in God, although he was not one to pontificate. On a lighter side, he enjoyed being competitive - from playing cards: euchre, pinochle and bridge; as well as most sports, especially golf.
He was a member of Bonita Bay Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida; Westchester Country Club in Rye, NY; and Sankaty Head Golf Club in Nantucket, MA.
There will be a Celebration of the Life of John F. Thompson at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, IN on Monday, June 2nd, 2025, at 2 p.m. where John will be laid to rest. All are welcome.
