Larry was a graduate of Garfield High School, received his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Educational Specialist degrees from Indiana State University and his Doctor of Education degree from Arkansas State University. Larry began his professional career teaching in Alaska, and went on into Counseling Psychology, working years in the field. Larry was a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and had his advanced certification as a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). Larry was appointed to the national committee in Greensboro, North Carolina, to set the scoring standard for the National Counselor’s Exam (NCE). He also was given the Teacher Appreciation award while teaching in Alaska, and was initiated into the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education. Larry was a member of several professional and civic organizations and served as an adjunct professor for several years.
Larry was dedicated to “working out” and won awards in weight lifting, many of his friends through the years he met in the weightroom.
On May 17, 2010, he lost his partner and wife, Johnnie Lorraine, due to breast cancer, he stayed beside her in the hospital, until the end. Larry never recovered from this loss.
