

Survivors include his wife Betty L. Pence; Ralph’s 4 children, Ralph A. Pence and wife Sandy of Terre Haute, Fred T. Pence and wife Diane of Idaho; two daughters Patricia G Bumphus and Paulette S. Ahmadi and husband Kash Ahmadi of Terre Haute; grandchildren Christy Ellis, Ben Pence, Elias Brown, Sam Pence, and Layla Ahmadi, and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, and Betty’s son Jeff Davis.
Ralph was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was in the invasion of Normandy, France at Omaha Beach. Ralph was a member of the VFW, DAV, Scottish Rite, and a member of the Masonic Lodge 19 for over 50 years and served as worshipful master twice. After returning from the war Ralph worked at Ripleys Bakery and was a locomotive diesel mechanic for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was also a business partner with Terre Haute Pattern Works. Ralph worked as a pattern maker for the Engle King Pattern Works in Columbus, IN. Ralph retired from Gwin Brothers Pattern Works. Ralph then started his own paint contracting business, took interest in antiques and with his wife; they opened Cypress Antique Shop. Ralph was a great inventor and invented usable products. In his later years he enjoyed the company of family and his dog Tyler.
Visitation will be at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm.
A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made at the charity of your choice. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.mattoxwood.com.
