

Ronald Lee Garlet, Sr., 73, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Union Hospital, surrounded by family. He was born on January 21, 1942, in Clay County, Indiana to Roy and Marcia (Guthrie) Garlet, Sr. He married Ida Louise Perkey on June 5, 1964.
Ron graduated from Patricksburg High School where he played basketball and baseball. He proudly served in the Army National Guard. Ron worked as an accountant and office manager for Jack Thrasher Ford, Doan and Decker Ford, and Dave White Ford. He worked for several years at First Financial Bank. He was a Notary Public, a Mason, and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Ron was an avid sports fan. He loved the Pacers, and was a devout IU and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a fan of Larry Bird when he played at ISU and for the Celtics. Ron looked forward to his class reunions and enjoyed catching up with his friends. He liked to go fishing. Ron loved to go to his grandson’s sports games. He enjoyed yardwork, especially on warm sunny days. Ron continuously provided love, guidance, and mentoring to his kids. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ron is survived by his wife, Ida Garlet of Terre Haute; children, Ronald “Buff” Garlet, Jr., and his wife Cathy of Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico and Tina Garlet-Dean and husband Jon Sorlie of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Aaron Dean, Wesley Sorlie, Grace Viera, and Shelymar Viera; great-grandchildren, Chris Yandriel Perez and Zaiden Sorlie; sisters, Betty Meadlo and husband Charles of Terre Haute; Margaret Summerlot of Mooresville, and Kathryn Hanna of Michigan; two beloved granddogs, Gizmo and Ginger; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother at birth, Harold Garlet; brothers, Roy Garlet, Jr., and Bill Garlit; and sisters, Imogene Wrobelewski and Pauline Miller.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 5 and from 11 to 1 p.m. on Friday, March 6 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Fleschner officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Cemetery, Coal City, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Associaton or the American Cancer Society.
