Thomas Lyle Newport Sr.

Thomas L. Newport, Sr., 67, of Terre Haute passed away on May 29, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on November 5, 1944, in Terre Haute, to George and Sarah (Brandon) Newport. He married Daphne Hatt on January 19, 1974. Thomas was a graduate of Garfield High School. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge 687, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, a member of the Sons of the American Legion Krietenstein Post 104, Legion Riders 104, Marine Corps League Joseph Bray Detachment, and the Murdock Racing Club. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, hunting, golfing, woodworking, trap and skeet shooting, and riding motorcycles. He will be deeply missed.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 38 years, Daphne; sons, Thomas L. Newport, Jr. and his wife Karen and David R. Newport and his wife Dawn, all of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Mitchell T. Newport of LaPorte, Sarah Beth Newport and Jeremy Auterson of Terre Haute; a great-grandson, Logan Auterson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Earl Newport, and a sister, Barbara Cone.

Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, June 1 at Roselawn Funeral Home with a Masonic service taking place at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 2 at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Wabash Valley for their care and support during Tom’s final days.
