

William “Bill” Gene Hewitt, 98, of Terre Haute, Indiana, formerly of Paris, Illinois, passed away on March 26, 2026. He was born on June 28,1927 to Florence Jaynes in Hoopeston, Illinois. At the age of 6 years old, he was adopted and raised by Mark and Etta Hewitt of St. Bernice.
In high school, Bill played basketball and wrestled. He attended the Nazarene Church and sang in the choir. Bill received a scholarship to play basketball in college; however, he decided to go to work for the railroad. He worked for MSTP and P, Milwaukee, and then went on to work for Soo Line and Association for 43 years. After the railroad, Bill drove cars for Mooney Motors in Paris, Illinois . He also worked on the Dyer family farm. Bill loved going to Florida, fishing in Canada, and visiting Colorado. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Jacalyn Hewitt; step daughter Pamela Huxford ; grandchildren include Cathrina McDonald (Roger), Tamara Black (Brock), Joe DeVillez (Summer), Shane Huxford, Jack(Katherine Reek's), Hewitt, Rachael (Dane)Molter, Sara(Rob Philpott)Hewitt, Jessie Hewitt. Great Q guy grandchildren Emmett, Ari, and Vera. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Jean Rose Williams Hewitt in 2018; sons Robert Hewitt, Tommy Hewitt, and William B. Hewitt Jr.; stepdaughters Ingra Huxford and Pam Huxford (Jim); and grandson Jarrod Devirly. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2026, at 12:00p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N Clinton Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47805. His grandson-in-law Brock Black will be officiating services. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, from 10:00p.m. until service time.
