

Hetty Arlene (Simpson) Smith, of Terrell, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 6, 2015. She was born March 13, 1933 in the Red Oak Community to William Carrell Simpson and Edna Calhoun Simpson and was greeted when she arrived in Heaven by her beloved husband, A.D. Smith, her parents, W.C. and Edna Simpson, sister, Helen Louise Simpson and brother William Paul Simpson. She attended Terrell Schools and married A.D. Smith on August 11, 1950. Hetty worked at the local Terrell hospitals as an X-ray technician and manager for several decades with most of her career spent at Colonial Hospital. Prior to her working at the hospitals, she and her husband, A.D., owned and operated the Dixie Dog Café for many years where she became a fixture in Terrell to so many. Hetty also had the distinction of being one of the first two paper-girls for the Terrell Tribune and her hard work ethic was rivaled only by her commitment to serving others. She volunteered and led in so many organizations and was a part of: Girl Scouts of America as a leader and volunteering with March of Dimes, America Heart Association, Terrell Community Auction, American Cancer Society, Citizens Police Academy, Terrell Park Board and Terrell Hospital Board as well as a faithful member of First Christian Church in Terrell. A devoted mother, loving mother, cherished grandmother and adored great grandmother, Hetty’s smile and generous spirit will be a legacy that her family will carry on for generations to come. She is survived by her children Paula Tucker and husband, Melvin and Carolyn (Karo) Stewart and husband, Wilson; grandchildren: Duane Stewart, Mel Tucker and wife, Natalie, Angie Webb and husband Alan and Amanda Arbogast and husband Russell; great grandchildren: Joshua Stewart, Mackenzie, Hailey and Riley Tucker, Abby, Aaron, Anna and Adam Webb, Natalie, Mace, and Addison Arbogast; step great grandchildren: Austin, Kiarra and Zakery Arbogast; sister, LaVerne Pierce and husband Kenneth and sister-in-law, Bobbie Simpson as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and a host of loving friends. Funeral service for Hetty will be at 2:00pm, Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Terrell with interment to follow at Oakland Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. The family will receive friends 6-8pm, Monday, May 11, 2015 at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home.
