Jason was born on August 10, 1971 in Texarkana, Texas to Rodney Gale Dupree and Terri Ray Carter. He grew up in Texarkana, Texas and was a 1989 graduate of Texas High School. After graduation, Jason enlisted into the Marine Corps where he proudly served until his medical discharge in 1994. He valued his service and attained the rank of Corporal on January 1, 1993. As part of his service, he served in Desert Storm and Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. He loved being a Marine. He loved his Marine brothers. He lived his life by the Marine Corps core values: honor, courage, and commitment. Semper Fi (always faithful)!
Jason was a Marine, but he was also a loving son, a one-in-a-million brother, a caring husband, a devoted father, the best grandfather, a loyal friend, and the greatest uncle, cousin, nephew, and more. He had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal and brave. He truly loved everyone and if you knew him, you knew it. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and…as we all know…being late. He was a jokester, a prankster, and could tell some of the funniest stories you’d ever heard. He would make the darkest of days turn bright with his contagious smile and teddy bear hugs and will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family and friends.
After he was discharged, Jason returned to Texarkana, Texas where he worked for the United States Postal Service for a few years, then began working IT and logistics with Diebold. During these years, he became a father to his children, Jacey and Gage. Being a dad was the greatest gift he ever received, and he loved them until his dying breath. Jason remarried around 10 years ago to his wife, Christina Dupree, and became a stepfather to Karrah Magness and Justin Gilbert. He loved these sweet kids as his own and proudly became a “Pop Pop” to his first grandchild, and then a few more. Jason was meant to be a grandfather. There was no one better for that title and he took great joy and pride in being a Pop Pop. He loved those grandbabies more than life itself and would have moved mountains for them.
When Jason wasn’t spoiling his grandbabies, he was playing poker or visiting with his lifelong friends. Once you were in his circle, you didn’t come out. His love and loyalty to his friends ran deep within him. He valued those friendships and never missed a day reminiscing about their times together. To his life-long friends, his poker buddies and his fellow jarheads – you were his brothers and he loved you so very much. Thank you for loving him like you did.
Jason touched many lives and will be missed and remembered by so many. You were taken home too soon and so many are left grieving for you. We find some peace in knowing that you are now free of the emotional and physical pain that you have endured for so long and that you are reunited with Mom and Dad.
Jason is survived by his wife, Christina Dupree, daughter Jacey Dupree, son Gage Dupree, stepdaughter Karrah Magness, stepson Justin Gilbert, his mom Zona Dupree, his sister and brother-in-law Julie and Brandin Franklin, nephews Austin Jones and Jackson Franklin, niece Victoria Franklin, brother-in-law and wife Adam and Nathania Smith, nephew Wesley Smith, niece Payton Smith, and his grandchildren Beckett, Everett, and Charlotte Magness and Ace Xavier Wright, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends.
