Lola Wilson

Lola Wilson, age 97, of Texarkana, Arkansas, died March 27, 2014 in a Texarkana, Texas hospital. Mrs. Wilson was born April 2, 1916, in Mineola, Texas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, AR, where she had been an active member of the Chancel Choir and the Adult Handbell Choir. She was a retired teacher, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and a Girl Scout leader. She had wonderful memories of traveling every summer with her sisters and her friend Reba Kirby. After the age of 90, she began compiling a history of First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, Arkansas which was published in 2011 and that was followed by a personal memoir which was published in 2013.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie P. Wilson; a grandson, Michael Shannon Porier; and a sister Evelyn Sullivan.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Victoria Wilson of Little Rock, AR and Virginia Wilson Paxton (John) of Hot Springs AR; a granddaughter, Sherry Porier Missildine; two great-grandsons, Alex Missildine and Alan Missildine; a sister LaVerne Whitten (Edward) of Fort Worth, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. In addition, she stayed in touch with the women from the two Girl Scout troops she led and considered them family.

After interment on Monday, March 31, a memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, AR, 400 East Sixth St., Texarkana, AR 71854 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bruce Bennett officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at East Funeral Home, 2807 Moores Ln, Texarkana, TX.
