I’ve known Paul since he was around 13 when his Dad pastored Texarkana COGOP. He often said things that he didn’t think were funny but made you laugh. When I was about 24, we moved to San  Antonio and came to visit my grandparents in Texarkana often. One time after church, I was talking to Paul when suddenly he said “wait..wait…what did you say?” I repeated it and he said, “I caint understand anythang you’re sayin’…you done got down there in San Antone and speakin’ all that Mexican….you got to talk like you used to!” I told him the language was Spanish and I WAS talking like I always did. He just shook his head & I laughed! That was more than 30 years ago….Paul was always a treasure, even if he didn’t know it. He was kind, would help anybody and he always smiled. I am deeply saddened by his passing but know he is with Jesus and we can see him again. I met Dana as a little girl when her Dad pastored San Antonio….my prayers are with you sweet Dana and for Emily & Caleb…also for Bro. & Sis. Sykes, Jimmy, John, Anita, Lynda, and Donna and all the

I met Paul when I was 12 and he was 13. We became friends and he grew to be more like a brother to me. I have so many memories of things we did as part of the youth group at the COGOP in Texarkana… I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend and brother Paul. My wife, Deborah  and I are praying for you Dana, Emily and Caleb and  for Paul’s parents, brothers, sisters  and family. We love you….May God bless you all…

I last saw Paul at Brother Johnny Kroon’s memorial just weeks ago.  I’m so thankful to have shook his hand, to have heard his gentle voice, and see his warm smile one last time in this journey of life.  I will look forward to seeing my dear brother in Christ in Paradise some glorious day!   My most sincere sympathy to Dana and his children, Pastor Sykes and all of his precious family.  You will always have a very special place in my heart and in my memories.  “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him; and May you abound in HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  Romans 15:13

I can remember when he stayed with my sister and her husband. He came in late and Frankie had supper waiting on him. We all sat at the table and I am not joking, he swallowed that food in only a few bites. Apparently, it was a skill he picked up in boot camp. I always enjoyed his smile when I came to church. He was one of my favorite people when I was growing up. Dana, Emily, & Caleb, I am so sorry for what you all have had to face in such a short time. My heart breaks with you. My prayers are with you and all the Sykes family. Much love to you all. 

Paul was one of a kind. We all had so much fun when we were in Texarkana. Paul and I had a standing joke that if neither of us were married by the time we were 30 we’d have to marry each  other. Well we turned 30 and neither of us were married so we decided to up the age to 40. We were so glad when Dana and Joe entered our lives 😂😂. I am so sorry Dana, his kids, his brother, sisters and Bro. Sykes for your loss. Our prayers are with you.
