

Ted L. Guthrie died at home in Texarkana, Arkansas, on Friday November 26, 2021, at age 70. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Guthrie, a daughter and son-in-law, Molly and Ryan Komisarz of Garland, Texas, granddogs, Moxie and Bandit, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ray and Jimmie Suggett of Texarkana, AR a brother-in-law, Bruce Townes of Balch Springs, TX and a sister-in-law, Judy Townes, of Texarkana, TX.
Ted was born in Gladewater, Texas on February 2, 1951. He is preceded in death by his parents, Deward “Ted” and Dorothy Bartlett Guthrie. After his graduation from W. W. Samuell High School in 1969, Ted went to work for Dallas Power and Light that later became TU/TXU/Oncor. Through his career, he worked as a lineman and troubleshooter and was given the nickname “Thumper” by his co-workers for his ability to climb poles. Ted retired from Oncor in 2012 after 43 years of service where he was a proud member of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local Union 69. Ted was currently working part-time as an FCC for Scarborough Engineering, Inc., Ft. Worth, Texas. During his life, Ted lived in Gladewater, Dallas, Rowlett, Royse City and Texarkana. His favorite pastimes included golf, doing yard work, enjoying the outdoors, and having a good political debate. He especially enjoyed attending renaissance festivals, escape rooms and haunted houses, watching his hummingbirds and bats, and spending time with his family. Ted’s proudest achievement was being a father to his daughter Molly.
A graveside celebration will be held Sunday, December 5, at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Texarkana, Arkansas.
A come and go viewing will be at East Funeral Home, 2807 Moores Lane, Texarkana, Texas, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Memorials may be made in his honor to Bat Conservation International at www.batcon.org
