Theresa Linhart Ashby departed this life and arrived in Heaven on the morning of May 30, 2026. She leaves behind a loving family and numerous friends that will miss her warm smile and quick wit.
Theresa was born on February 28, 1933 in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Oscar and Susan Linhart. The Linharts had a small chicken farm and paid the hospital bill by delivering eggs to the hospital cafeteria for several months. She married her husband Jim in June, 1955 and spent the early years of her adult life raising six children. After the kids were grown, she worked as an accountant and retired from St. Michaels Hospital, her place of birth, where she was paid in dollars, not eggs!
Theresa’s interests included travel, playing dominoes and a love of many types of music. She and Jim enjoyed frequent trips to Branson, MO, for the music festivals at Silver Dollar City. She enjoyed travel ranging from summer vacations in Galveston, TX when the kids were young – eight people in a station wagon- to more faraway places such as Canada and England.
Theresa was blessed with a large and loving family, and certainly her grandkids and great-grandkids were a tremendous source of pride. She attended numerous graduations, sporting events and other activities – and loved every minute. Theresa and Jim hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays for several decades, and she looked forward to having everyone together.
Theresa was a strong believer in her Savior Jesus Christ, a belief that had a major impact on her and her family. Even as her health began to fail, her faith did not waiver – she never doubted God’s sovereignty. She maintained a prayer list of well over a hundred names that she faithfully went through daily in a specific order. We will certainly miss those intercessory prayers! Our family takes great comfort in knowing where she will spend eternity.
Theresa was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, her parents, brother-in-law Mike Ashby, brother-in-law John Bloodworth and one granddaughter, Megan McGaugh.
She is survived by six children, David Ashby of Hot Springs, Marilyn Newton of North Little Rock, Charles Ashby (Debbie) of Fayetteville, Paul Ashby of Ft. Smith, Melissa Matlock ( Larry) of Texarkana, Greg Ashby (Patty) of Texarkana; sisters-in-law Brenda Ashby and Becky Bloodworth; twelve grandchildren: Randee Watson (Nick), Travis Ashby (Shanna), Laurie Pinner (Adam), Jill McGaugh, Brad Ashby (Sarah), Caroline Rhoads (Nick), Lauren Heath (Andrew), Haley Hoyt (Nathan), Mallory Matlock, Claire Ashby, Anna Pickett (Justus), Mark Ashby (Esther); and thirty one great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 3rd, from 1:00-2:00pm at East Funeral Home, 2807 Moore’s Lane, Texarkana, TX. Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm.
