Bob Ewing passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at home surrounded by family and love ones. He was born May 21, 1937 in Arkadelphia AR, the son of Thomas M. Ewing III and Hazel M. Conn-Ewing. He moved to Texarkana, AR in 1942 and grew up there. He was a graduate of Arkansas High School, Texarkana Junior College, and the University of Idaho. He married Maureen L. Jenkins May 27, 1961 in Coeur d’Alene, ID. They divorced in 1986.
After graduating from high school in 1955 he began working seasonally for the U. S. Forest Service in North Idaho, which led to a career with the Forest Service. He was employed on the St. Joe, Nezperce, and Clearwater National Forests in a variety of positions. He served in the Washington State Air National Guard and the U.S. Air Force Reserve. During his years with the Forest Service he served as a volunteer fireman, an EMT and was a member and past president of the Kooskia, ID Lions Club. He was a member of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. He served as an elder in the Orofino First Christian Church and as district representative to the Northwest Assembly of the Disciples of Christ.
He retired from the Forest Service in 1988. After retiring he lived in Washington State, returning to Texarkana in 1997.
He enjoyed his retirement years doing genealogy and family history and helping his children with business and legal matters. He was slowed down some over the years with health issues but continued to be an excellent father ,friend and mentor to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters, James S. Ewing of Huber Heights, OH, William R. “Rob” Ewing of Texarkana, Eric S. Ewing of Clarkston , WA, Mary K. Ewing of Lewiston, ID, and Angeline L. and Todd Johnston of Clarkston,WA.. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Xavier Ewing, Lewiston,ID, Lorissa Ewing, Phoenix, AZ, Joshua Ewing, Huber Heights, OH, Rebecca and Alyssa Johnston, Clarkston, WA, Abigail, Isaiah, and Gabrielle Ewing, Clarkston, WA and Haleigh Ewing of Texarkana. In addition nieces, Suzan Rogers, Rebecca Brumley, and Mary Dwight of Texarkana and a very special friend Patricia Star of Fort Worth, TX.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Thomasine "Tommie" Chapman.
Services will be at 2pm Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at East Memorial Chapel-Downtown with Steve McIntosh officiating.
Burial will be in East Memorial Gardens under the direction of East Funeral Home-Downtown
Memorials can be made to Westside Church of Christ.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the funeral home.
