

Al was born on October 10, 1930, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Alfred Webster Stillwell, Sr. and Sally Clova Chapman Stillwell, who preceded Al in death in 1943 and 1981. He grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, graduating from Garfield High School in 1949, and from Indiana State in 1953, with honors, and a B.S. degree in Accounting and Business Administration.
In the 1960's and 1970's, Al was active in Toastmasters International, a world-wide public speaking, communications and leadership training organizations. In 1964-66 he served a two-year term on the Toastmasters International Board of Directors and in 1973 served as Vice-Chairman of the International convention held in Houston, Texas.
Al held accounting positions with Kroger Co. in Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Detroit. In 1961, he was promoted to Controller of its Nashville division. In 1968, he came to Houston, Texas as Division Controller. In 1974, he joined Rice Food Markets as C.F.O. In 1974, he earned his C.P.A. certification. It was at Rice Food Markets where he met his future wife, Linda Jean Ragsdale Warren. They married on June 27, 1981, remaining together for 41 years until her passing April 10, 2022.
Other professional career positions included V.P. Finance positions with Kay Meat Company, Houston, Texas, and T-Shirts Plus, Waco, Texas, and Director, Internal Audit for Builders Square, San Antonio, Texas. In 1997, he joined Stage Stores, Houston, Texas, as Director, Internal Audit, retiring in 2007.
Al and Linda were world travelers, walking on the Great Wall in China, touring Israel and the Holy Land, where they were re-baptized in the River Jordan, and to Egypt, exploring the Pyramids and Valley of the Kings. They also made several trips to European countries, and Great Britain, home of their ancestors. They also took a number of cruises, and toured much of the United States.
Al and Linda acquired an extensive collection of antique Royal Doulton vases and Waterford and English crystal and other collectibles. They loved dogs, raising four Dachshunds and surviving Yorkie, "Muffin" who was companion to both Linda and Al.
Al is survived by daughter, Kimberly Pruett and son-in-law Charles Pruett, of San Antonio, Texas, granddaughter, Charla of San Antonio, Texas, grandson, Shaun Barnett and husband Christian Diaz of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is further survived by brothers-in-law, John Ragsdale and wife, Mimi, and their daughter, Laura of Houston, Texas, and Kerry Ragsdale and wife Randi of Houston, Texas, three great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Visitation for Al will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 11:00 am at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home & Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45S, The Woodlands, Texas. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 pm and entombment immediately after service at the Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery.
