Alta Wright Rix

Alta was born in Beaumont, and as a young girl lived also in Orange and Lake Charles before her family settled in Huntsville, where she attended and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1941, and from Sam Houston State Teacher's College in 1945. It was also in Huntsville that she met Ralph Lee Rix, whom she married in 1946. Alta and Ralph later lived in Victoria, TX, New Iberia, LA, and Grand Isle, LA before settling in the New Orleans area for many years, and where three of their four children were born. Alta and Ralph relocated to Houston in 1969. She was a devoted member of the Memorial Church of Christ during her many years in Houston. A lifelong homemaker, Alta will be remembered lovingly. Her abiding sense of style charmed all who knew her. Her love of cinema and music were perennial joys to her and became so for those who cherished her. Alta was especially known in her last years for her wonderful big smiles that she bestowed on her family and caregivers. A special thanks to her caregivers Betty Morton and Rose Vital in New Orleans and Doreen Badze in The Woodlands.

Alta was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Blanche Wright of Huntsville, and by her husband Ralph in 1991 after forty-four years of

marriage. Among the loved ones she leaves behind are her sister, Carolyn Werner of Hunstville; her four children: Nancy Rix of New Orleans, Karen Mohabbat of Houston, Ralph (Sonny) Rix, Jr. and wife Diane of The Woodlands, and Wright Rix of Los Angeles; four grandchildren: Joel Melchor of Los Angeles, Melissa Mohabbat of Houston, Alexis Rix of The Woodlands, and Tristan Rix of The Woodlands; one great granddaughter: Alana Smith of Houston; and niece Lynn Werner of Houston.

Services are set for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 21, 2010 with visitation starting at 9:00 AM in the Chapel at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 P.M. in Oakwood Cemetery, Huntsville, TX.
