Arden was born on April 21, 1924, in Stettin, Wisconsin to parents John Lodholz and Martha Buttke on the family farm in Stettin, Wisconsin. He was a Wisconsin farmer and later a truck driver who lived a life rooted in the soil and the steadfast values of his German Lutheran heritage. He learned early on that a life well-lived was built on hard work and faith. He dedicated himself at a young age to his family.
In 1947, Arden married Aladine Gresens in Stettin, Wisconsin. They were married for 79 years at the time of Aladine's passing in 2020. Together they built a life rooted in faith, partnership, and a shared endurance that conquered all of life's seasons. Their loving strength was the foundation of the home for their children Diane, Linda and Larry. A natural family man, Arden's presence was strong and steadfast. He passed on to his children his enduring love of God, respect for hard work, and dedication to family. Always self-sufficient, Arden and Aladine lived in and cared for their home for 67 years. At the age of 99 years old, this rugged, hard-working man was still mowing his son's lawn.
Arden and Aladine were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau, Wisconsin where he was an enduring presence in the pews and always a loyal servant to God. In Texas, Arden was a member of Living Word Lutheran Church in The Woodlands where he formed deep bonds with a church family that cherished him.
Arden was a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America serving as Leader and Assistant Leader in his community, mentoring young men, and creating lifelong friendships with other leaders and scouts who met together to play cards for decades.
Arden was preceded in death by his wife Aladine, his daughter Diane Whiteley, and sisters Marie Schult and Ruth Schuett.
He is survived by son Larry Lodholz, his daughter Linda Johnson (and husband David), and son-in-law Terry Whiteley; grandchildren Lisa Degen (and husband Don), Matt Johnson (and wife Jen), Sarah Whiteley, and Jennifer Whiteley (and husband Tim Oleson; and great grandchildren Emmett Degen, Ellie Degen, Ethan Johnson, and Emory Johnson.
Arden Lodholz will be always remembered as a true Man of God. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. The memory of him and the many lessons he taught us will remain in our hearts forever.
A Memorial Service for Arden will take place on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 10:30 am at Living Word Lutheran Church, 9500 N. Panther Creek Drive, The Woodlands, Texas 77381. The service can be streamed on Facebook and Youtube through LWLC.org
